Funds raised for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Xmas night out planning, CX results and a call for blog contributions.
Charity club run this weekend. JustGiving page set up.
A strong season closer for Chris. A good CX result for Rob and an upcoming club meeting next weekend.
Results for Pete and Rob, another National Championship for Chris, and an upcoming club meeting.
A good weekend for the Petes, 7th for Jonny and a bad day at the office for Chris in Verbier.
Two rides of note coming up this week.
The first is on Thursday (24th August) is this season's YorkCross opener. Get your knobbly tyres out and get ready for a couple of hours blasting around York's hidden gems of trails, singletracks, cobbles and even beaches.
In case you needed a reminder of how good these late Summer YorkCross rides can be, here's a video from a previous edition.
YorkCross will leave from outside York Art Gallery at 6pm this Thursday.
Fancy going long this weekend? Rob Pape is organising another Tan Hill epic. It'll be a long day in the saddle, and so an early start is in order. The Tan Hill ride will be leaving from the roundabout where Beckfield Lane meets Wetherby Road (map) at 7:30am on Saturday.
If you're going to do a Tan Hill ride, August is probably the right time to do it!
Sorry for the lack of an update last week. Here's your bumper omnibus edition of the bulletin.
Recent Results and Upcoming Races
Tom Hick was in the Ard Rock Enduro last Saturday:
"What a event! It has grown to almost 3000 people taking part over the weekend in several different events. Saturday was the main race for me with 404 people in my class alone and 960 up for the male overall category. With that I mind I should be happy with my class result but after been in 3rd place for a couple hours and having to wait for the rest of the rides to come in with their time I ended up getting knocked down a place to 4th and 16th overall. My next race should be the Ard moors at the end of the month but I may do a bit of cross in between."
Jonny Apaloo finished off the NYERRL series in a great position in the overall series standings, both for him and the VC:
Brandsby was #8 in the league and the last in the series with FTR, Prologue and Valley Striders pulling out the big guns with FTR having 7 riders in the race. As I was laying 2nd in the league, all I had to do was beat Jimmy Parvin by 3 points... I say all, he's been one of the strongest and consistent riders all season so was never going to be easy.
As usual the race was a 30 mile club ride with a 1 mile hill climb to finish off... I was positioned reasonably well (somewhere between 10th and 15th) and thought I'd do my usual tactic on this circuit, until I realised it was the shortened version and didn't have he luxury of the flat recovery section. So there I was, heart rate maxed and not making quite enough progress to get past the riders in front and rolled in 11th. Slightly deflated but never mind. The 3rd placed rider in the league was well down on me so happy to claim the runner up spot. This also meant VC York claimed 3rd place in the team standings for the season. Hopefully someone younger and better can improve on that result for next season!
Chris Clark was in the MTB XC Marathon Nationals a couple of weekends ago. He finished 10th overall (5th Veteran).
Next up for Chris, next weekend, is Round 3 of the Alpine Cup, 125km Grand Raid BCVS. This race is part of the UCI MTB Marathon World Cup.
Pete Lambert will be racing next weekend in the Aggregate100, a 100km gravel enduro, run from Cropton Forest on the North York Moors. Places are still available, last I checked, so if anyone else fancies it, get involved.
Go well, everybody.
Yorkcross is coming
It's that time of year again when we start thinking about knobbly tyres ripping around the tracks and trails hidden in and around the city. Thursday night CX rides are almost upon us. Get your bike prepped and stay tuned for updates soon.
