VC York are excited to announce the return of last year's incredibly successful charity Reliability Ride, to be run on the 23rd October 2016. Starting from YorkSport village in Heslington, the ride will cover 120km and around 1000m of climbing on a circuit of the picturesque Yorkshire Wolds.
Riders who enter online before the day of the ride will be automatically entered into a prize draw to win a selection of amazing prizes donated by Rapha including bottles and an Essentials Case
The VC York Reliability Ride is a late-season club event intended to fill the gap in road events at this time of year and maybe serve as a season closer for road riders. It's open to anybody, in fact we welcome riders from other clubs (as well as those not affiliated to any clubs) to come and join in. It's non-competitive, rather in the traditional sense of a Reliability Ride, this event is a test of your self and your bike. Riders will be set off in groups but are expected to be fully self sufficient and able to deal with any mechanical issues that might occur.
There are no support vehicles, no route signage and no feed zones. Riders pretty much take care of themselves and those around them. Above all they need to ride safely whether alone or in a group and observe the Highway Code and other rules of the road. We must all ensure that everybody gets completes the event safe and sound.
All profits from this year's event will be split evenly between the club's two chosen charities: Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Sustrans. These are two charities that, as cyclists, we rely on. Let's take this opportunity to help them.
Entry costs £5 if you register online via the British Cycling event page or £10 on the day with all profits being split between the two charities. Registering early and online will both save you money and put you in with a chance of winning some great Rapha goodies which have kindly been donated by one of Britain's most iconic cycling brands.
Last year's popular route will remain in place, with a few small changes to avoid some bad roads around Thixendale which last year saw a number of punctures suffered by riders.,
Starting and finishing at YorkSport Village in Heslington, the route takes a clockwise tour of the lanes and climbs of the Yorkshire Wolds to the East of York, passing through Murton, Warthill and Buttercrambe before a long climb at Acklam. The route then heads to Thixendale, Fimber and Wetwang, climbs towards Huggate then through Middleton on the Wolds, Lund, Etton and Market Weighton. One last climb from Londesborough then it's down Nunburnholm Hill and into Pocklington before heading back to York on Elvington Road.
The rolling hills and exposed roads will provide an enjoyable but challenging ride for all entrants.
The event will start at 9am on Sunday 23rd. Please make sure you're there in plenty of time to sign on and enjoy the roll-out.
And there's more! Enter online before the event and you'll be in a prize draw to win from a selection of prizes donated by Rapha, including bottles and an Essentials Case.
